Yayoi Kusama



While looking for an artist to research i was immediately drawn to Yayoi Kusama because of her use of vibrant colors and immersive works of art. Growing up she had a mental illness which in cases made her hallucinate so she was able to use that in the creation of her art. Being a Japanese artist, the use of some traditional inspired works is used in her art. Kusama views her most recent works of art as diary entries and if it wasn't for polka dots saving her life she would have killed herself. Spending 37 years of your life in a mental institution can take a toll on you. What i find so facinating about her work is that she immerses herself in it with matching clothes. It's as metaphorical as it is appealing.
"I convert energy of my life into dots of the universe".

Her way of thinking is truly one of a kind.

Artist Research Assignment "Jim Campbell"

Matthew Tenenbaum Artist Research assignment The artist I chose for my research assignment is Jim Campbell. He was born in 1956 in Chicago Illinois and now works based in San Fransisco. He best known for LED light works. With a background in film most of his installations combine film, sound and mainly LED lights. The reason I chose to research Jim Campbell is because after searching for an artist I was astonished by some of his work. He really caught my attention with his use of lights. Not only does he work on installations for public spaces but he also does installations that are used in live performances. He has a great feeling for the use of LED lights to create emotion. Many of his works are still standing today all over the world from 30 foot installed sculptures to different smaller scale projects. Final Project

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kDfX-la-Vk&feature=youtu.be Statement: For this final project i really wanted to try something different; something I've had in mind since we were first introduced to projectors. I wanted to create a simulation of some sort. I decided that a car would be the best bet because the film for it was realistic. I thought it would be really cool to actually build the space in which the simulation was being projected in. For the most part i think i accomplished my goal with this final project. The construction of my car could've gone a little better than anticipated but for the most part i think i did a decent job. I wanted the simplicity of a drive in the projection, not something crazy. It's important to enjoy the little things in life such as driving down the road in beautiful sunny Florida.
