Project 3 / Artist Statement

For project 3 i had the idea of having an angel and devil sitting on both of my shoulders trying to give me advice. The reason i had this idea is because i feel as if this is what i experience on a daily basis. For the most part i know that i have a lot of responsibilities and things that need to get done but there are times where i just want to relax and not worry about anything. I used my good friend Joel to play the roles of both the angel and the devil (inner conscience). I wasn't sure whether or not to use the original audio because i thought it would be interesting to leave whats going on up to the audience's interpretation. When i finally decided to use the audio, it wasn't working so i had to improvise and record my own. On the left in white my good conscience is telling my i have important stuff that i have to do and that I'm running out of time. On the right is my bad conscience telling me not to worry, relax and do whatever i want. At the end of the day i think all people experience this inner conflict and ultimately make a decision based on their priorities. Most of the time i choose my good conscience but there are times where my bad side takes over.

Artist Research Assignment "Jim Campbell"

Matthew Tenenbaum Artist Research assignment The artist I chose for my research assignment is Jim Campbell. He was born in 1956 in Chicago Illinois and now works based in San Fransisco. He best known for LED light works. With a background in film most of his installations combine film, sound and mainly LED lights. The reason I chose to research Jim Campbell is because after searching for an artist I was astonished by some of his work. He really caught my attention with his use of lights. Not only does he work on installations for public spaces but he also does installations that are used in live performances. He has a great feeling for the use of LED lights to create emotion. Many of his works are still standing today all over the world from 30 foot installed sculptures to different smaller scale projects. Final Project

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kDfX-la-Vk&feature=youtu.be Statement: For this final project i really wanted to try something different; something I've had in mind since we were first introduced to projectors. I wanted to create a simulation of some sort. I decided that a car would be the best bet because the film for it was realistic. I thought it would be really cool to actually build the space in which the simulation was being projected in. For the most part i think i accomplished my goal with this final project. The construction of my car could've gone a little better than anticipated but for the most part i think i did a decent job. I wanted the simplicity of a drive in the projection, not something crazy. It's important to enjoy the little things in life such as driving down the road in beautiful sunny Florida.
